This IS still a democracy ... right?

So I got a call from my friend Kez, who lives in Washington. A friend of hers who lives in Southern California is 21 and still living at home. Her parents are FORBIDDING HER TO VOTE. Yep, even though she is a legal adult and a registered voter, they're not allowing it. They won't even let her leave the house tomorrow! The reason for this? Because she plans to vote the opposite way that her parents want her to.

Since I live in CA and have some familiarity with state laws, Kez called me to see if I had any ideas. I suggested her friend get to the Registrar of Voters and do early voting, but she didn't make it before they closed.

Anyone have any ideas how this can be remedied? Since she is a legal adult, I can't help but wonder if her parents' refusal to let her leave the house constitutes false imprisonment. And aren't there federal laws against deliberately preventing someone from voting?

My next thought is to see if we can find a voter's rights group, a local branch of her political party, or a labor union near her (labor unions often help get voters to polling places) to see if they can be of any help. Other thoughts and suggestions welcome!
