That's right, people: of all the fishnetted crazies in the Bay Area - and believe me, there are plenty - we're the highest-quality ones. (Also, I'm the Columbia in the accompanying photo.)

Anyone have suggestions for how I can make the hat pictured below?

(Also: think I can get my hair to do that, or should I buy yet another wig?)

I got the photos uploaded! Many thanks to
lokiz_mom and
genuine_snark for offering to loan me the right cables, and
shoutingboy for suggesting I look for a command that would copy photos from my camera onto the memory card. It worked!
So here are the photos of my cake, which I have entitled "Hats Off to the Bawdy Caste":

(If you don't happen to know the inspiration for the cake, please direct your attention to my icon.)
It's a yellow cake with lemon filling and buttercream frosting. I used a star tip to make it look like sequins, then added a generous covering of "Old Gold" luster dust.

Happy 13th birthday, Bawdy Caste!

- Time for my biennial Olympics obsession! I admit I'm a bit fixated, but I'm really not that bad; I only watch the primetime coverage, and it's only for two weeks every other year. (Tom: "Are you going to be watching the Olympics in Reno?" Me: "No! ... Well, maybe a little ...")
- I'm also participating in my own Olympics;
cross_stitch is hosting the Stitching Olympics for the duration of the games. I'm using the time to feverishly work on a huge cross-stitch I've been picking at for months. (Those of you who attend SocialTank know the one I'm talking about.) If I can finish the rather detailed border, I get a bronze medal; do all the complex green backstitching, and I win silver; and if I actually finish the danged thing, I get the gold! I'm hoping for a bronze by the end of Week 1. We'll see.
- And finally, it's both a marathon and a sprint to the finish line for our 10th Anniversary Reno Road show, August 23! The Caste spent all day yesterday rehearsing and working on props, either repairing and refurbishing our current ones or making new ones. I repainted the pommel horse and helped put the prop microphone back together when I wasn't rehearsing Floor Show. Tom spent the day making a new laser gun for Riff Raff, and he's planning on putting LEDs in the prongs so it actually lights up. Our talented group - led by Robbie, our Head of Tech - is even making that most complicated of RHPS set pieces: a monitor board! I can't wait to see it all put together!
- Next Sunday, we're putting together 500 Trannie Packs to sell at the show and doing a final rehearsal. No rest for us! Luckily, we're going to karaoke night at Cameron's Pub in HMB Saturday to relax a little bit.

Due to a scheduling conflict at our theater, we had our show on Friday instead of Saturday this weekend. Our cast and audience slow-dances in the aisles during "I'm Going Home".

Our "Shock Treatment" performance went so well! I'll offer more details - along with pics and clips - later, but for now, I'd like to show you all the cake I made to commemorate the event.
Here's the scene from the film that inspired it:

My good friend (and Bawdy Caste member) Diane is a professional cake decorator and owner of Bewitching Elegance in Burlingame. She and I have often said we should collaborate on a cake.
We decided to throw a party on March 15, the centerpiece of which would be our cake. "That's the Ides of March," someone pointed out. Ahh, a theme! We'd throw a toga party with a Roman-style cake design!
Working in her professional kitchen (which is in the back of her mother-in-law's candy store) was a real treat. I felt a bit like a kid at the grown-ups' table. She helped me with my fondant-rolling and -application techniques, which vastly improved!
And here is the result:

The Roman Temple of the Dagger!
( 'Eat too', Brutus? )

Notes from my trip to Santa Cruz on Saturday to hang out with Bawdy Caste members and see Slugs in Fishnets perform at the Del Mar Theatre:
- Apparently I'm getting old. I could only ride the Giant Dipper at the Boardwalk three times.
- Rock Band is SO MUCH FUN. I loved playing the drums! It's probably a good thing I have no disposable income right now, or I'd be sorely tempted to get it! (As it is, I'm fighting the urge to pick up Guitar Hero 3...)
- I should stick with the drums or guitar, though. My attempt at signing was a disaster!
- Marianne's Ice Cream Parlor very well may have the best variety ever. It’s my goal to try a different flavor each time I go. (It's important to have goals!) Dunno if I'll ever get up the nerve to try the Alice B. Toklas Fudge Brownie flavor, though... ;-) (Hey, it IS Santa Cruz!)
- Remember: when dining at the Saturn Café – or anywhere – with RHPS folks, always duck the flying brown sugar packets!
- Also remember to keep ketchup nearby in case Jeb threatens you with mustard.
- At RHPS that night, jokes about Heath Ledger were flying fast and furious. And yet *I* got 'ooooh'ed because when Janet said, "Couldn't win," I shouted, "Like the Patriots!" (It was just a bit of fun, honest ...)
- Challenge of the evening: changing from my usherette costume into normal clothes while seated in my car after the show. (I don’t care how liberal that town is; I was not going into the local diner in that outfit!)
